What is the Synergis Cloud Link appliance?
ANSWER
An intelligent appliance, which acts as an industrial Micro-Server running Linux and Genetec’s integration services called Softwire, engineered to address the longstanding customer demand for non-proprietary access control. It improves reliability as it allows organizations to rely less on connectivity to the server to do basic and advanced access control.
The appliance supports non-proprietary AC modules from the industry’s most established manufacturers such as ASSA ABLOY, Axis, HID, Mercury, and others.
What is Softwire?
ANSWER
It is the firmware running inside our Access Control system, the Synergis Cloud Link. The Softwire integration services run on a micro-server in order to have the decision processing unit closer to the edge, which increases the resilience to diverse types of failure such as network failures or servers down. Softwire is not necessarily bound to proprietary hardware, but it relies on peripherals not commonly found on general purpose servers.
What makes the Synergis Cloud Link appliance unique?
ANSWER
It allows on-premises devices to securely connect to Genetec’s cloud services. It provides an asynchronous, encrypted, led-balanced and failover-savvy communication channel to the server.
The Synergis Cloud Link is an intelligent appliance that customers can deploy at all remote sites instead of an off-the-shelf server.
P2P communications between multiple Synergis Cloud link appliances help ensure they communicate at all times. Through this connection, end users can leverage Global Input/Output linking and Global Antipassback (APB) across appliances, regardless of connectivity to the main server.
The appliance is flexible as it allows users to leverage their current access control infrastructure and upgrade to an IP based solution thanks to its open architecture, while reducing the number of IP connections between remote sites and a central site.
Genetec controls the logic running in the Cloud Link and the associated software release. As dependency on third party slows down our capabilities to deliver business outcomes to our customers, controlling the logic closer to the edge allows us to achieve our goals.
Synergis Cloud Link also activates stronger encryption between remote and central sites through the advanced level of encryption between Synergis Cloud Link appliances and Synergis servers or third-party hardware. It also increases the overall security of your system by reducing the surface of attack for hackers, given that there are fewer devices connected over a WAN or the internet.
